More Seaford, East Sussex, England. I am starting to feel faint from a combination of sea-lust and Sussex-lust. It is a killer combination, but an excellent way to go. (Reading Tom on flickr)

" The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity… and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself. "

The Melville Bed

ca. 1700

The bedstead consists of an oak bedstock (frame) with four oak posts secured to the rails with bolts. It retains its original ropes and linen ticking fabric to support the mattresses. The top of the posts hold iron spikes that secure the tester (upper horizontal section) and cornice. The coved interior of the tester is built up with facetted boards. The Chinese silk lining bears a Chinese inscription on the selvedge (finished edge of the fabric). Traces of pencil on the underside of the tester cloth provide guidelines for the application of braid and fringe. The curtains are made of joined widths of velvet.”

Beauty is more than skin deep

Do you look pretty today ? Is your hair glossy, do your eyes sparkle and is your skin soft and ripe as a peach ? Well good. But understand that its all as transient as a butterfly on a summers day. Enjoy the moment because it’ll be over in the wink of an eye. Acccept it for what its worth, which isn’t a lot.

Not much in this life is certain but one thing I can guarantee you is that, if you’re lucky and live long enough, you will lose the beauty you’re so obsessed with now. You’ll be old and stooped and wrinkly. You will. Theres no doubt about that.

If you’re beautiful inside though, a kind, loving, generous person, then that inner beauty will endure while the shell you carry it around in decays. But if your looks are all you have, if they’re what most define you as a person and what you most care about, then ultimately you will have nothing. Truth.

" And what language is (not what it means, not the form in which it says what it means), what language is in its being, is that softest of voices, that nearly imperceptible retreat, that weakness deep inside and surrounding every thing and every face - what bathes the belated effort of the origin and the dawnlike erosion of death in the same neautral light, at once day and night. Orpheus’s murderous forgetting, Ulysses’ wait in chains, are the very being of language. "

- Maurice Blanchot, Works of Fire (via xineann)
