After a long day, you just want to go home and shove the closest edible thing into your mouth and watch whatever is on Netflix instant. And on weekends, you try to psych yourself up to go out at night but then you realize you are just so damn tired and Netflix instant sounds awesome. And there’s all that driving and like, having to wear pants.

I don’t like this expression “First World problems.” It is false and it is condescending. Yes, Nigerians struggle with floods or infant mortality. But these same Nigerians also deal with mundane and seemingly luxurious hassles. Connectivity issues on your BlackBerry, cost of car repair, how to sync your iPad, what brand of noodles to buy: Third World problems. All the silly stuff of life doesn’t disappear just because you’re black and live in a poorer country. People in the richer nations need a more robust sense of the lives being lived in the darker nations. Here’s a First World problem: the inability to see that others are as fully complex and as keen on technology and pleasure as you are.

What’s Wrong with First World Problems

This times a million, plus the fact that everyone talking about “first world problems” is bragging about them.

“First World Problems’ and “Trigger Warning” are the two most annoying phrases on the internet.

The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity… and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself.

“I hear all this, ‘well, this is class warfare, this is whatever’. No. There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody. You built a factory out there? Good for you. But I want to be clear:

You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for; you hired workers the rest of us paid to educate; you were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn’t have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory, and hire someone to protect against this, because of the work the rest of us did.”

“Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific? Or a great idea? God bless. Keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.”

- Elizabeth Warren

The last thirty years of free market fetishism and crony capitalism have perverted that bedrock American ideal to something twisted and perverse. Warren is clearing out the cobwebs for a lot of people and giving them a different way of thinking about this problem.

Win or lose the Senate seat, she is doing a service to the country by having the guts to face down the powerful and say what needs to be said. And it’s inspiring progressives all over the country, including, some say, the president himself.

Figured there might be people out there who agree with this sentiment…

Thank you for this! ♥

Trolol, this SO goes with what I was just saying XD

This so much.

OMG. THIS. Also, reblogging does not equal caring either. -_- Many of those guilt-trip reblogs says “this will only take a couple of seconds”. And you know what? You could not give a crap about the subject and just reblog it to fake caring, precisely because it only takes a few seconds! Let’s not gauge caring based on reblogging, shall we?

especially those people who say: “Stop reblogging pictures of tan girls in bikinis and pizzas for a few seconds and reblog this.” Like they’re saying “you’re so superficial you only reblog those kind of things” people. I just want to smack them in the face. shut the hell up, i reblog what i want.
